Big Brothers Big Sisters of Licking & Perry Counties "Lunch Budies" offer personalized time and attention to children on a regular basis at a child's school or another nearby facility.
Teachers identify children who could benefit from having an extra caring adult in their lives. Lunch Buddies and children meet regularly during the school year, typically once a week for 45 minutes. In the school environment they play games, talk, do crafts, go over safety issues, and even play at recess. Qualified BBBS staff are on-site to help.
During the summer, they may stay in touch through letters, emails, or phone calls facilitated by a BBBS staff member, or attend an agency-sponsored event. Some matches may qualify for School-Based Plus status, which allows them to meet off-campus, while others may transition to become Community-Based Matches to meet more frequently.
Whether they play games or read together, their relationship fosters a positive school experience for the child, including good attendance, positive relationships with peers and adults, a positive attitude, and academic enrichment. As their friendship grows, Lunch Buddies and children discover ways to make learning and school enjoyable. Lunch Buddies who continue matches from year to year feel the satisfaction of watching their Littles succeed in school.
